Lewisville Countertops fits backsplashes in homes across Lewisville. We fit the backsplash, the strip of tile or stone on the wall behind your counter, and we measure that wall first so every piece lines up with your countertop.
Backsplashes we fit
We fit ceramic and porcelain tile backsplashes, and stone backsplashes cut from the same slab as your countertop. We can make a stone backsplash a short strip along the back of the counter, or run it all the way up to the cabinets.
The U.S. Department of Commerce says ceramic tile is made from a mix of minerals, clay among them, that is fired so the raw materials fuse together. The EPA says firing turns a ceramic into a dense, solid body made of fine, even grains.

Taking off the old backsplash
When we take off an old backsplash, we check the wall behind it before anything new goes up. The EPA says mold may be hidden in places such as the back side of drywall, and inside walls around pipes that leak. It says to fix plumbing leaks as soon as possible and dry everything completely.
We seal the joint where the backsplash meets the counter with caulk, a soft paste that sets into a waterproof seal. The EPA says not to caulk over moldy surfaces. If we find mold behind the old tile, we stop and tell you, and we only put the new backsplash up once the mold is cleaned up and the wall is dry.
Older homes and lead paint
The EPA says that if your home was built before 1978, it may have lead-based paint, and the older the home, the more likely it is. It says cutting, drilling, opening walls and taking things apart all make dust that may contain lead. Under the EPA's lead paint rule, contractors doing this kind of work in homes built before 1978 must be lead-safe certified. Ask any contractor to show you that certificate before they start.
Dust and fumes
OSHA says cutting, grinding or drilling stone creates crystalline silica dust, in particles far smaller than sand. It says breathing in that dust can cause silicosis, a lung disease that cannot be cured. Where we cut stone in your home, we keep the dust down and ask you to keep children and pets out of the room.
The EPA lists glues and adhesives among the products that give off VOCs, which are gases that come off some solids and liquids. It says to increase fresh air when using them, so we open a window or run the vent fan while the backsplash sets.
What sets the price of a backsplash
We price a backsplash once we've measured the wall, and you get that quote in writing. Our price depends on the tile or stone you choose, how much wall we cover, how many outlets and switches we cut around, and whether an old backsplash has to come off first.
What to get in writing
Ask for these in writing, whoever you hire:
- The tile or stone, and the grout color. Grout is the paste we press into the gaps between tiles.
- How high the backsplash goes, and where it stops at each end.
- Whether taking off and hauling away the old backsplash is in the price.
- What happens if the wall behind it needs work.
Questions about backsplash installation in Lewisville
Do I need a permit for a new backsplash in Lewisville?
The City of Lewisville lists cosmetic projects, such as replacing cabinets or installing carpet, as not needing a building permit, and it suggests calling its Building Services staff to confirm. If a permit is needed, the city says you should never apply for it on behalf of your contractor. If your job moves an outlet or changes the plumbing, we'll make that call to the city with you before we start.
Can you match the backsplash to my countertop?
Is a quartz backsplash the same as a quartz countertop?
Yes, we cut a quartz backsplash from the same engineered stone as the counter. NIOSH, part of the CDC, says engineered stone is also known as quartz.
Can you put a backsplash behind the stove?
Yes, we can fit tile or stone behind the stove. The EPA says to use exhaust fans or open windows whenever you cook, so we leave room for your vent hood.
Can you fit a backsplash in a bathroom?
Yes, we can fit a backsplash above bathroom vanity tops as well as in the kitchen.
Can you fix a cracked backsplash tile?
Send us a photo, or ask us to come and look. We'll tell you whether a countertop repair visit can swap the tile or the whole backsplash should be redone.
